CORT Spotlight on Military Veterans – Brandon Carta

Marine CorpsCORT’s District General Manager (DGM) Brandon Carta may have departed the military many years ago but, according to him, it is and will continue to be a big part of who he is as a person and business leader.

Brandon had his first calling to join the military during the US and Iraq conflict known as “Desert Storm.” However, he also admired his late grandfather for his service in the U.S. Army during World War II and has always considered him his biggest hero.

With his best friend, Brandon joined the U.S. Marine Corps as a senior in high school on what is known as the buddy system. The two graduated boot camp and Brandon was meritoriously promoted to a Lance Corporal (E-3) based on his performance in boot camp. Once he graduated from boot camp, he went to a technical school at Redstone Arsenal (RSA), which is a United States Army post and a census-designated place (CDP) adjacent to Huntsville in Madison County, Alabama. RSA is also part of the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area where he studied to be an Ammunition Technician. This move set up his military service career.

What initially drew Brandon to the military became a reality when he was sent overseas on a security force to finish off the Desert Storm initiative. At the end of that mission, Brandon spent some time deployed in other overseas regions, specifically in Japan, Korea, and China.

After returning from overseas, Brandon was assigned to 2nd Marine Division where he spent the majority of his time at Camp Lejeune, helping train Marines how to use different munitions for different weapons systems. He also worked as an Explosive Ordnance Disposable (EOD) liaison, learning to dispose of any unneeded or faulty munitions. During this time, he received a meritorious promotion to Corporal (E-4) and soon deployed to different Combined Armed Exercises (CAX) to continue his training and development as a Marine. He completed his active duty six years enlistment as a Sergeant (E-5) and a two-year inactive commitment, totaling eight years of service.

Brandon is proud to have served his country, where he was able to travel the world with many fine military men and women. This experience provided a great deal of knowledge about foreign policy and our political affiliations around the globe, and has contributed to his success as a leader at CORT.

He is thankful to have made it home safely and to be able to share one of the best experiences he has had in his life and career as well as apply his skills to his role as a DGM at CORT. Brandon is also happy to report that his best friend went on to train to be a sniper for the Marine Corps and is doing fine today.

Thank you for your service, Brandon!
