CORT and Folds of Honor Foundation Support Military Families this Veterans Day

Customers invited to text donations to raise funds for educational scholarships through Dec. 31

CHANTILLY, Va. (October 29, 2013) – As Veterans Day is observed on Nov. 11, CORT invites all customers to make a donation toward the Folds of Honor Foundation to support their mission to leave no family behind when it comes to education. Founded by Major Dan Rooney in 2007, the Folds of Honor Foundation provides educational scholarships to dependents and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our nation.

In alignment with CORT’s partnership with Folds of Honor, the transition services company launched a texting program that allows customers to donate $10 to Folds of Honor from the convenience of their mobile phones. Customers can text “CORT” to 27722 and a one-time charge will be added to the customer’s mobile phone bill or deducted from a prepaid balance now through Dec. 31.

“As a longtime supporter of the military and education, CORT is extremely proud to support the Folds of Honor Foundation’s mission of supporting the families of America’s fallen and disabled heroes, especially this Veterans Day,” said Lisa Woodworth, vice president of marketing of CORT. “The texting program allows CORT customers to easily participate in providing deserving students with scholarships to the school of their choice.”

The texting program is being promoted in all of CORT’s rental and retail showrooms across the United States. Earlier this year, CORT donated furniture, accessories and housewares to the first Folds of Honor Foundation’s Honor Cottage located in Sperry, Okla., a retreat house where military families can kick back and relax away from the challenges of everyday life.

Text donations can be made now through the end of the year. Scholarship applications for the spring 2014 semester are available now until Nov. 15. To learn more about CORT and the Folds of Honor Foundation, please visit our blog.

About Folds of Honor

More than one million dependents have been affected by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Of these, 87 percent do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance. Folds of Honor, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a mission to empower deserving military families with educational support and opportunities, is helping fill this gap by providing educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation. Created by Major Dan Rooney following his second tour of duty in Iraq in 2007, Folds of Honor has awarded more than 5,000 educational scholarships to date.
