CORT Partners with FamilyAid Boston to Address Homelessness

CHANTILLY, Va. (January 18, 2017) CORT, a Berkshire Hathaway Company and the nation’s leading provider of transition services, has partnered with FamilyAid Boston to help furnish one of its newest supportive affordable housing units for homeless parents and children. The new units are located in the Four Corners neighborhood of Dorchester and will come with a living room, eat-in kitchen and three bedrooms furnished by CORT, including living room sofas and side tables to kitchen tables and beds.

The units are part of the 100-year-old non-profit’s HOMES program, an incremental approach to affordable housing growth. Families move directly into these units from shelter and pay an affordable rent while receiving comprehensive, individualized case management from FamilyAid Boston to help them build the skills and resources they need for long-term stability and self-sufficiency.

“There will always be a need for large-scale affordable housing developments. But those projects often take a long time,” said Richard Ring, president of FamilyAid Boston. “Our families need housing right now, and this is the most effective way we can create it for them – by purchasing existing buildings and harnessing the support of generous private partners like CORT.”

FamilyAid Boston operates shelter and housing programs serving upwards of 800 families each year. Over the past ten years, CORT has worked with FamilyAid Boston to provide furniture and accessories for roughly 1,000 shelter housing units. CORT furniture solutions include sofas, beds, dressers and artwork. In addition, CORT has donated accessories such as lamps and rugs, helping turn the apartment units into homes.

“CORT is honored to be a partner of FamilyAid Boston, helping address the ever growing issue of family homelessness,” said Brandon Lamphear, CORT district retail manager in Boston. “Through this partnership with FamilyAid Boston, we’re helping families create a new start after facing homelessness.”
