Aligning with the mission to build strong partnerships with Supportive Housing Organizations, CORT San Diego has partnered with Promises2Kids, a nonprofit that provides support to children removed from their home due to abuse and neglect. CORT supports the organization in many ways, most recently, donating a portion of sales during National Foster Care Month as part of the first annual Companies Cares4Kids Campaign.
Lee Otto, retail manager of CORT San Diego, has spearheaded these efforts, contributing more than 126 volunteer hours at 20 events in 2017 alone.
“I love volunteering with organizations like Promises2Kids that support children and am thankful CORT provides the opportunity to do so,” says Otto. “As a product of the foster care system, I can personally relate with the foster children and look forward to engaging with them through fun games, field trips and outings they enjoy.”
CORT San Diego also provided furniture for the Scotch Lounge during the 2017 Promises2Kids Dream On Concert Gala, in addition to providing a team of volunteers throughout the evening and during several Promises2Kids programming initiatives, like Guardian Scholars and Camp Connect. CORT is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others and, together with Promises2Kids, they are able to build a brighter future for local foster children.
For anyone interested in getting involved with Promises2Kids, Otto says, “Don’t be intimidated by working with children you don’t know. Be more of a listener than a talker. At the end of the day, all they really need is someone who listens to them.”
Thank you to the CORT team in San Diego for supporting this great cause!
