Austin CORT Raises Funds for Local Non-Profits through Chili Challenge

In November, CORT challenged the Austin, Texas, community to whip up their best chili recipes for the ultimate taste test at the fourth annual “Operation Chili Challenge” cook-off. The event took place at the CORT Furniture Rental and Clearance Center in Austin, Texas, bringing together the local community to benefit Trinity Oaks and the Doc & Gayle Young Food Drive!

Trinity Oaks is a non-profit organization that uses hunting, fishing, and outdoor activities to give back and make a difference in the lives of underserved populations such as veterans, youth, terminally ill and disabled; who benefit immensely from the outdoors, but otherwise would not be able to afford the experience.

The Austin Apartment Association’s annual Doc & Gayle Young Food Drive is a volunteer-driven fundraiser to purchase Thanksgiving foodstuffs for Central Texans. For the 2016 food drive, volunteers have set a goal to raise $60,000 and feed over 1,350 families.

On November 5, CORT employees, local businesses and community members tasted 10 chili samples and enjoyed live music from local band “Don’t Tell Debbie”, all for a good cause. The winning recipes were recognized with trophies and cash prizes, including $300 for the first place winner, $200 for the second place winner and $100 for the third place winner.

In total, CORT raised nearly $6,000 this year! Thank you to everyone who attended the event and to the volunteers for all of the time and effort that went into making this event such a success!
