CORT Fights Food Insecurity with Move For Hunger

In 2020, many Americans lined up, sometimes for hours, outside of their local food banks seeking assistance with groceries. While some had experienced food insecurity well before COVID-19, others were new to this form of aid. When looking back on 2021, as the pandemic continued to drag on, not much seemed to change. Individuals and families still faced the challenge of finding enough food to eat each day which put the same stress on the nation’s food pantries.

Last year, CORT continued to work closely with our partners at Move For Hunger to try and offset some of the continued effects of food insecurity from households across the country.

How CORT Impacted Food Insecurity in America in 2021 with Move For Hunger?

CORT began working with Move For Hunger in 2018 to bring together the relocation industry by collecting unopened, non-perishable food items from multifamily housing residents and delivering them to local food pantries.

In 2021, CORT collected and donated 40% more meals to food banks and pantries across the United States through our partnership. This amounted to 81,572 pounds of food that provided 67,977 meals, the most since the partnership began in 2018. Over the past four years, CORT has helped collect 233,461 pounds of food to provide 194,550 meals for those who need it most.  In addition to collecting food, CORT’s efforts helped mitigate 28.17 tons of CO2eq, and helped raise $307,539 in donations to Move For Hunger.

“Move For Hunger is something our organization truly enjoys being a part of. We were very excited to help energize the Multifamily Housing aspects of the charity and have enjoyed being a part of the logistics of the program with the apartment industry,” said Jeff Pederson, CORT Chairman & CEO. “CORT became a member of Mover For Hunger several years ago, and we’re proud to say that we have since provided more than 950,000 meals to food banks and pantries across the United States.”
