More than 500,000 people in Oregon struggle to access affordable, nutritious food. To help address this issue, CORT’s Portland team participated in National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign that enhances relationships between communities and law enforcement.
This year, Commons at Dawson Creek Apartments commemorated the evening with a food drive for their neighbors in need. The event was supported by CORT’s community partner Move For Hunger, a national non-profit organization that mobilizes the relocation industry to reduce food waste and fight hunger. Residents were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, such as peanut butter, tuna fish, pasta and more. To add even more excitement, the Commons at Dawson Creek Apartments raffled off tickets to see the Portland Timbers.
“We’re always looking for ways to support our community,” said Dwayne Stone, District General Manager for CORT in Portland. “At CORT, we have the means to make a difference for families who are battling hunger every day, and this event is a great example of how small acts of kindness can have a great impact.”
At the end of the night, 50 pounds of food was ready to donate. CORT stepped in to pick up and deliver the food to the Oregon Food Bank West, where it will be used to supply 40 meals to families in need.
