Survey Reveals Most Parents to Help Their Child Pay for College

Results reveal 80 percent planning to support children financially, with tuition and housing as the biggest cost concerns

College tuition costs continue to skyrocket nationwide, but most parents are still planning to help their children financially. A recent survey conducted by mom blog, A Mom’s Take and CORT, the nation’s leading provider of transition services, identified how parents are planning to prepare themselves and their children financially for college education.

According to the survey results:

  • 80 percent of respondents are planning to help their children pay for college
  • Tuition and housing/moving costs were listed as the biggest financial considerations for parents
  • 77 percent of respondents plan to pay for college using their savings; scholarships and financial aid are also in the plan for the majority of respondents
  • 35 percent of respondents plan to be involved with their student’s housing, including helping them find housing, furnishings and moving them into and out of their college living space

“The cost of college, predominantly tuition and housing, is the most significant financial consideration in a child’s life,” said Rob Johnson, director of higher education sales at CORT. “Furniture rental is one way parents can ensure cost predictability for students and minimize the upfront investment for a student moving off-campus.”

CORT, the only national provider of furniture rental services, provides college students tailored furnishing solutions to meet their unique needs. Furniture can be delivered or removed “on-demand,” ensuring renters maintain the highest quality living standards with the least hassle and no extra, hidden costs involved. Rental packages start at $109 per month with 12-month lease options; other lease terms are available. For more information on student rental packages, see
