Folds of Honor Foundation Debuts Honor Cottage Furnished by CORT

Retreat house now open to military families in Sperry, Okla.

CHANTILLY, VA (July 4, 2013) –CORT and the Folds of Honor Foundation debuted the first Honor Cottage retreat house today. Located on a wooded hillside on the shore of Skiatook Lake in Sperry, Okla., the Honor Cottage is dedicated to military families of injured or fallen soldiers to rest and relax away from the challenges of everyday life. As the exclusive furniture provider of the foundation, CORT donated furniture, accessories and housewares to complete the cottage. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held over Memorial Day weekend.

“For more than 40 years, CORT has been committed to supporting and honoring military personnel and their families through various channels in appreciation for their tremendous sacrifices for our country,” said Lisa Woodworth, vice president of marketing for CORT. “The cottage includes a fully furnished living room, kitchen, dining area and multiple bedrooms to accommodate all members of the family, perfect for a weekend getaway. We’re excited for military families to visit and relax with loved ones in a place of comfort, peace and healing, away from the stresses they regularly endure.”

Founded by Major Dan Rooney in 2007, the Folds of Honor Foundation provides educational scholarships to dependents and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our nation. In addition to providing product donations, CORT also provides monetary support to the foundation and is currently executing a variety of special fundraising activities in its rental and retail showrooms across the country.

One of the fundraising activities launched by CORT this year is a texting campaign that allows customers to donate to the Folds of Honor Foundation from the convenience of their mobile phones. Customers can simply text “CORT” to 27722 and donate $10 to Folds of Honor. Customers can text a donation from now until December 31, 2013.

“Our military families have given so much so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today,” said Major Dan Rooney, founder of Folds of Honor. “Thanks to the support of companies like CORT, we are able to provide at least a respite from everyday life so these families can enjoy time together at the Honor Cottage.”

About Folds of Honor

More than one million dependents have been affected by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Of these, 87 percent do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance. Folds of Honor, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a mission to empower deserving military families with educational support and opportunities, is helping fill this gap by providing educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation. Created by Major Dan Rooney following his second tour of duty in Iraq in 2007, Folds of Honor has awarded more than 3,800 educational scholarships to date.
