As warmer weather is fast-approaching, you might start thinking about how to liven up your décor to welcome spring and summer. But how to do it without spending a fortune? Decorating seasonally can be a challenge, but the key is flexibility and creativity. This week at CORT Furniture Rental, we reached out to our followers and to decorating experts to find out how you stay on trend from season to season with your home décor.
Change Up the Color
Erika Woelfel is BEHR Paints’ Director of Color and an international colorist, and had some great tips for the CORT Furniture Rental blog. (For more on color according to Erika, visit the Colorfully, Behr blog.)
“Seasonal color changes can be made in every room of the house,” says Erika. “Sometimes it is as easy as changing out a pillow or towel, but you can also change out wall colors and rugs to bring a seasonal theme into your decor.”
She says that the bathroom is one of the easiest places to make a change, since retailers often come out with new towel colors each year. For the dining area, Erika says, “I change out the linens, dishes and centerpieces for summer or winter looks. Now that summer is almost here, I go for the cool tropical colors on the table: turquoise, aqua, blue, white dishes. Yellow napkins are a key accent and really brighten things up…. Because many people are entertaining in the dining area, painting a single accent wall a fun eye-popping color is an easy way to make a change and start the conversation!” And in the living room, “I make an easy switch with decor items on the sofa. Lime green and aqua throw pillows feel fresh for summer.”
Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize
Peggy Pardo is the mind behind The Decorating Files, a blog devoted to achieving beautiful home style without breaking the bank. As an interior decorator and a professional organizer, Peggy knows how to create a well-styled, in-season home without needing a total décor overhaul.
“A great way to bring in the colors of the season is through accessories,” says Peggy. “They can be changed out rather quickly and stored away for next year. I love a neutral foundation that gets a boost of color from the room’s accessories; it’s so easy to incorporate each season’s colors. In the springtime it’s all about bright colors. Bring in a colorful flower arrangement for the table. When summer arrives, cool things down with softer colors and natural fabrics. Cotton window panels and jute rugs work great this time of year.”
Update Your Rental Furniture
On the CORT Furniture Rental Facebook, our followers also had some feedback about their decorating. Sylvia suggests a combination of turquoise and burgundy for a beautiful and relaxing match, and our friends at Sagamore Hills Apartments say that they are using the popular “Aloe” color as an option for accent walls in their apartment community. CORT Furniture Rental agrees that using color statements and bold combinations can be a great way to keep any room up-to-date, whether in a house or an apartment.
At CORT Furniture Rental, we, too, believe in the power of accents for changing the look of your home. Furniture rental can be a great way to swap out the old for the new.
