Did you know that on any given night there are over 3,000 homeless individuals in the Houston area? Recognizing an opportunity to help some of the community’s most vulnerable, CORT teamed up with New Hope Housing to open an apartment development for local adults living alone on a limited income. This location is the eighth community by New Hope Housing and includes 175 single units with retail and office space.
Each unit is a fully furnished efficiency with a private bathroom and kitchenette, equipped with a microwave and refrigerator. Also available to residents are a shared kitchen, business center, library, theatre, dining room and social service rooms for life skills training programs. CORT provided furniture for the entire community in an effort to create a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes residents feel at home.
“Affordable and supportive housing is essential in Houston as rental prices continue to increase,” said Todd Shell, regional manager of supportive housing and treatment facilities at CORT. “CORT is very active in supporting local supportive housing initiatives, and this is just another opportunity for us to lend a helping hand to a community in need.”
All of New Hope Housing’s properties offer residents on-site support and recovery services to help them pursue a fresh start and maintain a safe, healthy lifestyle. Other services include case management, primary and mental health care, legal aid, nutrition counseling, financial education, life-skills training, and occasionally rental support.
CORT is proud to join forces with New Hope Housing to address the issue of homelessness in Houston, especially as the city tries to rebuild after Hurricane Harvey, which destroyed many affordable housing developments.
