It’s that time of year again! Most people move during the spring and summer months. If fact, between May and September is the most common time to move into a new apartment. If you’re beginning the process of apartment hunting, you know that this can quickly become a daunting task. With so many sources of information at your fingertips, it can be difficult to know where to even begin.
Functional furnishings are key when it comes to designing small spaces, particularly a student apartment or dorm room. Adding multi-functioning pieces like bookshelves can create interest, while providing an option for cleaning up the endless clutter caused by textbooks and papers.
You’re finally ready to move out of the dorms and into your first college apartment. Congratulations! This is an exciting moment in your life that you’re sure to look back on fondly. You’ll never forget this first apartment, so make sure it’s perfect for you.

I recently returned from my annual trek to the High Point Market in High Point, NC, which is the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world, bringing more than 75,000 buyers to the home fashion mecca every six months. One item that always makes it on my packing list is a pair of comfortable shoes to help me get through the 180 buildings, featuring thousands of new product introductions that make interior designers and product merchandisers, like me, salivate.
The CORT merchandising team attended the 2014 International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago, where over 2,100 exhibitors from over 45 countries came together to debut thousands of new and innovative products for the home!
It may not seem like it in most parts of the country right now, but spring is just a few weeks away. While you are cooped up inside waiting for the temperature to rise, look for areas where you can add accessories to breathe new life into your home. Accents such as faux trees and plants, mirrors, area rugs, lamps, and artwork can take any space from drab to fab without spending a fortune.
I just returned from a trip across the pond where I attended the Interiors UK show in Birmingham. The largest furniture show in the United Kingdom, this show offers a unique opportunity for retailers, interior designers, architects and contractors to experience an array of inspiring interiors products from more than 600 exhibitors, including new options for furniture, lighting, flooring, soft furnishings and accessories.
Congrats! You’ve recently graduated and are moving into a new apartment. For many college grads, this is the first time moving and furnishing your own place. Being a recent graduate also means that you are looking to furnish and design your new pad on a budget.
Making the decision to bring a pet into your family takes a lot of careful consideration. From figuring out who will be responsible for the early morning walks to putting out their food, there is a great deal of responsibility that goes along with owning a pet.
Are you trying to decide if you should stick it out in your apartment until summer rolls around? This could be a huge mistake. Most people move between the months of May and September. If you’re apartment hunting during the winter months you can actually save on your moving costs and find a better deal on your new place.
It has been a particularly brutal winter in many parts of the country. Even in the comfort of a warm apartment in the company of family and friends, winter brings about unique challenges – dealing with being cooped up inside, staying exercise-inspired, worrying about the heating bill, and staying cold- or flu- free.
