CORT Raises Money for Heroes Night Out with “Operation Chili Challenge”

CORT rallies Austin community to support local military veterans

CORT Business Services raised money for Heroes Night Out at its first-annual “Operation Chili Challenge” cook-off this past Saturday at CORT’s Rental Showroom and Clearance Center in Austin. A resource center exclusively for military veterans, Heroes Night Out provides a variety of services and support for local Austin veterans. Proceeds from this event went directly to Heroes Night Out.

More than 300 supporters from the Austin community attended the event, including 15 teams of contestants. The winner, “Dead Cow Parts Cooking Co.”, was judged based on a variety of criteria by local Austin tastemaker judges. In addition to the chili cook-off, attendees enjoyed local rock band, “Don’t Tell Debbie” and a variety of enticing raffle tickets, including San Antonio Spurs Tickets, 42″ Flat Screen TV, $500 Spa Package and the event was emceed by local celebrity Craig Bushon. Also in attendance were the mascots for Round Rock Express, Spike and Austin Toros, Da Bull.

“We are grateful for CORT’s hard work in putting together this event and to the Austin community as a whole for rallying behind our local veterans,” said Judy Pierce of Heroes Night Out. “The funds raised help support local veterans in a variety of ways, including well-deserved nights out and counseling.”

Heroes Night Out is a non-profit organization in support of wounded veterans with a mission to provide them with a get-away outlet that will allow them to have a well-deserved break from their everyday military duties. In addition to CORT, nearly 20 additional sponsors, such Amli Residential and Camden Property Trust, showed their support for local heroes.

“The Chili Challenge was a great way to unify the community for this great cause,” said Todd Shell, marketing manager for CORT. “We are thrilled to stand with this organization and provide this resource to deserving veterans. The entire CORT team is looking forward to making this an annual fundraising event.”
