Are you running out of time for your home staging project? There is so much to do and so little time! And most of all, everything has to be perfect. You may have been told before that there is a fine line between perfectionism and procrastination. It is easy to get overwhelmed by a large project with limited time. If you are paralyzed with thought, take a breath and read on. Hope comes in the form of a little organization. Make a list of every home staging detail that needs to get done before the first showing of the house. Take time to write absolutely everything down. Then, number tasks by varying levels of importance. Label high priority things as 1, and luxuries and details as 3. Create a sliding scale of priority and then approximate how long it will take to do each task. Finally, compare it to the number of hours or days that you have, and set your crunch time schedule! Eliminate tasks that are low priority as you lose time. Don’t do away with low priority tasks altogether. Keep hustling through your to-do list so that you can get to the lower priority stuff when …

Feng Shui is an ancient system of Chinese aesthetics that has been popularized in the last few decades, and has become increasingly popular for home staging. The discipline of Feng Shui focuses on the balance and movement of energy throughout a business or home. Feng Shui is a complex, multifaceted discipline that requires years of training to master. In ancient China, Feng Shui was used to determine the orientation of a dwelling to maximize something akin to auspiciousness — meaning favorable, or lending itself to future success. So, an auspicious environment brings forth future success. Today, Western use of Feng Shui is mostly limited to interior decorating. The goal of home staging is to make it appeal to the widest number of people, while remaining welcoming and attractive. Ultimately, you want potential buyers to imagine themselves living in the home. Statistically, furnished housing is easier to sell. But furnishings often reflect very specific personal tastes. Owners will often rely on home furniture rental when their own pieces are especially distinctive in color or style. In addition to furniture rental, another way to add interest and ambiance is through wall treatments. In this area, both wallpaper and paint have their advantages. Here at CORT, we know that these choices are important. Here are some things to think about as you consider your options. Choosing textured wallpaper can add style and interest while staying within a neutral color palate. Though paint can be textured to achieve similar results, the variety of textures and patterns available in wallpaper far exceed that of paint. These include the use of grasses and other natural materials. Although, in most cases, distinctive colors and patterns may not be the best choice, they can enhance the look of a period home. A wide variety of vintage wallpapers exist for just that purpose. While wallpaper offers …

Whether we are staging a home, adding to our office or preparing an event, planning the arrangement of our furniture can be quite puzzling. While CORT offers services to help bring together approved stagers and consumers, for the do-it-yourself planner, we’d like to provide a few recommendations to help you artfully provide a look, feel and ambiance to your space of choice. In our previous home staging blogs, we emphasized a minimalistic approach. Minimalism has another distinguishable advantage: improving traffic flow. This will be especially important with large gatherings of people. Visualize the main path of traffic from the central focus and use of the room to individual exit points. Furniture that impedes flow might need an alternative placement to allow for an unobstructed route. Start big by arranging your largest piece of furniture first. In most cases, this is a couch, bed, desk or table. When planning your home furniture rental, visualize or draw out the placement in relation to the key focal point of the room but not cluttered around it, as this draws too much eye away from the ambiance. Provide balance with other large furnishings by keeping them separate and incorporating smaller, related items such as …
