What Happens in Vegas, Doesn’t Always Stay in Vegas

hospitality design expoYou know what they say – “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” Well that is not the case with my recent visit to the Hospitality Design Exposition & Conference (HD Expo) at the world-renowned Mandalay Bay resort.  I witnessed so many interesting interior design trends at the show that I couldn’t possibly keep it all to myself.

In case you are not familiar with the HD Expo, it is the premier trade show and hospitality conference for its industry. Established in 1992, HD Expo is dedicated to bringing the interior design industry, architects, owners/operators, developers, specifiers and purchasers the best available resources for their projects. Attendees are able to see first-hand the latest designs for interiors as well as ideas that make doing business in the hospitality industry easier and more innovative than ever before.  This year’s HD Expo allowed my team and I to see the trends for finishes, colors and textures for 2015 and beyond.

One thing I always appreciate going to the HD Expo is seeing new wall covering designs, because this is widely used across the hospitality business.  Wall coverings bring a variety of textures and finishes to walls, creating interest and visual appeal for guests.  At this particular show, we continued to see shine in all the papers.  Silver remains quite popular, but we also saw a lot of gold and gold leaf.  We also found an interesting application of wallpaper where foam was applied to the surface first, and then the wallpaper was applied over the foam. This application adds dimension and depth to a space.

Bedding is also big at this show.  Leaders in the bedding industry displayed their new products for hotel rooms.  We continue to see the “hoteling white duvet” which offers a clean, crisp design to hotel room spaces.  CORT features this trend in our housewares division, as well as tonal prints and stripes in white and beige.   A fresh twist on this bedding is using white as a base and then accenting with bright colors.  Accent pillows and throws continue to be a must in hotel rooms!

There were several other products represented at HD Expo including floor coverings, furnishings, lighting and more!  My team and I walked away with a great preview as to what is in store for the design world next year!
