Relocation Made Easy for International Students

Attending college in a foreign country is an exciting and unique experience for students, but relocating to somewhere new can be a very stressful decision in a student’s career.  From selecting which school to attend, to where you should live and how you will get around, there are many potential challenges that come with being an international student.

CORT provides international students with relocation services such as furniture and housewares rental, apartment locator tools and guided neighborhood tours to help make their stay in the U.S. a success. With our expertise, we have compiled city guides for the most populous American college cities to help acquaint international students with their new homes, ranging from best places to eat, shop and visit.  Here are a few of the highlights:

CHICAGO

Known for their deep dish pizza, students are encouraged to check out Giordano’s (@GiordanosPizza) and Medici on 57th (@ MediciOn57) during their stay in the Windy City.  If experiencing the local shopping and entertainment scene is on your to-do list, then breeze by The Magnificent Mile (@ TheMagMile), one of the top 10 hospitality, dining and retail destinations in the world.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

Home of Ghirardelli Chocolate and the Gold Gate Bridge, San Francisco has a lot to offer international students.  Ranked 44th of the top tourist destinations in the world and the sixth most visited one in the United States in 2011, there is so much to love about The City by the Bay.  For that morning jolt or afternoon pick-me-up, check out Philz Coffee (@PhilzCoffee) or Velo Rouge Café (@VeloRougeCafe).  Foreign students cannot complete their experience in the states without visiting the world famous Golden Gate Park (@GoldenGatePark) and Alcatraz Island (@AlcatrazIsland).

NEW YORK

The one thing The Big Apple is known for is its food.  From NY-style bagels (Murray’s Bagels, 72nd Street Bagel, Bagel Hole, Ess-a-bagel), to inexpensive yet delicious places to eat (Mighty Quinn’s, Pork Slope, Corner Bistro), there are a variety of eateries to fit the student budget.  And your visit to the city will not be complete until you experience a real New York deli like Kat’z Delicatessen, a destination frequented by many actors, singers and comedians over the last several decades.

BOSTON

Bostonians refer to their city as “America’s College Town,” because the Greater Boston area is home to some of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in the world. So whether you settle on the Crimson Red of Harvard or Boston University’s BU Red, Beantown will certainly not disappoint. To live like a true Bostonian, you must eat New England Clam Chowder at Atlantic Fish (@afcoboylston).  Learn about America’s favorite pastime, baseball, by taking a tour of the Green Monster, otherwise known as Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox.

LOS ANGELES

You certainly cannot live in Los Angeles without experiencing the glitz and glamour that permeates throughout the Rodeo Drive (@RodeoDriveBH) shopping district.  Although you may not find something to purchase within your budget, window shopping is always an option.  Another must see is the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a series of stars on one of the world’s most famous sidewalks and a permanent public monument to entertainers.
