CORT Raises Funds to Support Military Families

Donation helps provide housing for visiting families at military and VA medical centers

CORT, a Berkshire Hathaway Company and the only national provider of rental furniture, worked with apartment communities across the nation to donate nearly $27,000 to the Fisher House Foundation, which provides a home away from home for families of patients receiving medical care at military and VA medical centers in the U.S. and Germany.

Earlier this year, $25 was donated to the Fisher House for each furniture lease which resulted from a referral by an apartment community partnering with CORT. CORT regularly works with apartment communities to provide a rental furnishings option for their prospective new tenants.

“Many people moving to a new apartment would prefer to rent rather than purchase furniture, as they may prefer to avoid the shopping time commitment, large expenditure and moving aggravation that is required by ownership,” said Gina Scaringelli, group marketing manager for CORT. “In addition, there are many people whose stay is short term, such as commuting business executives and students, for whom buying furniture makes no sense. We are excited to partner with apartment communities to ensure that new residents are made aware of the rental option, and to support the Fisher House Foundation in recognition of referred customers that resulted from the partnership.”

CORT also supports military members and families in base housing nationwide by working with privatized military housing firms and directly with residents to develop customized furniture packages that fit any need or budget, ensuring residents can feel at home from their first day on the base.

“The generosity of CORT and its partners is amazing,” said Derek Donovan, vice president of The Fisher House Foundation. “We truly consider each of our donors a partner in our mission to help and honor the sacrifices of our military men and women and are elated to assist over 17,000 military and veteran families a year at absolutely no cost to them. Partners, such as CORT, help make this possible.”

The Fisher House has donated 57 homes nationwide and in Germany that house anywhere from 16 to 42 family members, thereby saving families of military personnel a collective $192 million in lodging and transportation costs and filling the gap between what the government is able to provide and what these families need.
