Because many people are entertaining in the dining area, painting a single accent wall a fun eye-popping color is an easy way to make a change and start the conversation!”  And in the living room, “I make an easy switch with decor items on the sofa. Lime green and aqua throw pillows feel fresh for summer.”

Peggy Pardo is the mind behind The Decorating Files, a blog devoted to achieving beautiful home style without breaking the bank.  As an interior decorator and a professional organizer, Peggy knows how to create a well-styled, in-season home without needing a total décor overhaul.

“A great way to bring in the colors of the season is through accessories,” says Peggy.  “They can be changed out rather quickly and stored away for next year. I love a neutral foundation that gets a boost of color from the room’s accessories; it’s so easy to incorporate each season’s colors. In the springtime it’s all about bright colors. Bring in a colorful flower arrangement for the table. When summer arrives, cool things down with softer colors and natural fabrics. Cotton window panels and jute rugs work great this time of year.”

As you choose new colors for your house, draw from your color palette strategically.  You’ll want to separate each room’s individual color scheme into 3 parts: its primary color (the most dominant color in the room), its secondary color (the color of its smaller components), and its accent colors (the colors used in the accessories).  This kind of methodical separation serves just a guideline, of course, but having ground rules can really help you as you choose furnishings and paint.

Colors for Home Staging

Choosing colors for home staging is a slightly different matter.  When home staging, you are creating an environment that is neutral to any one decorating style but is still welcoming and attractive.  Therefore, if you are home staging, it is recommended that you use more neutral colors rather than a color palette that makes a statement.  While a bold blue or deep green may look great with your décor, it may put potential buyers off if they don’t share your tastes.  With the right home staging, a buyer should be able to envision their own décor in the space.  Decorate with furniture rental pieces to match your neutral colors so that you create an inviting space that prospective buyers could see themselves inhabiting.

Colors for an Apartment

Black and White

Black and white is a classic combination.  Though these two simple shades seem limiting, they actually open up a whole world of possibility when it comes to textures, fabrics, and styles.  Our black and white room started with the Bentley Plane Framed Artwork, and expanded into a contemporary, edgy design.  The clean lines of this framed flower are replicated in a CORT Furniture Rental Clear Lucite Table Lamp, which keeps with the monochromatic theme while adding a new material to the mix.  Likewise, the Mikel Reclining Chaise is made of luxurious black leather with chrome legs.  Elegant and clean, the furniture rental elements in this room invite elegance and balance into a home.

Orange
